DENVER – October 6, 2006 –Dr. Richard Schamp, consultant for Altitude Edge Consultants and associate professor at St. Louis University, recently co-authored a study published in theJournal of the American Medical Directors Association. The article, entitled “Managed Death in a PACE: Pathways in Present and Advance Directives,” was published in the July 2006 edition of the journal and co-authored by Leigh Tenkku, M.P.H., deputy director of research at St. Louis University.
The study tested the effect of an innovative method of documenting present and advance health care wishes on the rates of completion and the qualitative choices of health care wishes. Through the study, the authors concluded that the introduction of a novel pathways method of documenting health care wishes in a Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) site was associated with increased completion, preferences toward less invasive levels of care at life’s end, and increased compliance with participants’ wishes and deaths at home.
